Network Architecture

The topology in each city consists of an ATM network transported on SDH and a Metro Ethernet network, both in ring configuration. This guarantees service availability.

Our networks transmit via optical fiber and are part of a ring topology that includes a self-recoverable backbone and route switiching via multiplexor equipment with digital cross-connection functionality. In other words, it is a multi-service network with state-of-the-art technology to offer the service telecommunications service providers require to satisfy their customers.

There are nine access nodes to clients in Barranquilla, seven in Cartagena, four in Bucaramanga and four in Cali. ATM/FR access and concentration equipment is installed in the nodes, along with SDH multiplexors and Metro Ethernet switches.

The design of the optical fiber network and the distribution of the ATM and Metro Ethernet switches, and that of the access and concentration equipment depend on the end customer’s location (industry, commerce, services, financial sector, etc.) and the location of the POP of the telecommunications operators in each city.

Centralized management of the network for each city operates out of Barranquilla, where the network operations center is located.
